The bets in craps can be broadly classified into two groups. Some of the bets require a number of rolls before they are decided and these are commonly referred to as sequence bets. Other bets are decided in the very next roll of the dice and are called one roll bets.
Craps Bets - Pass Line & Come Bets
The most popular sequence bets are the pass line bets and the come bets. The pass line bet will win on the come out roll if 7 or 11 are rolled. The pass line bet will lose on the come out roll if a craps is rolled. A roll of 2, 3 or 12 is known as craps. If a point is established the pass line bet will win if the point is rolled before 7. If 7 is rolled before the point the pass line bet loses. The don't pass bet is exactly the reverse of the pass line bet.
The come bet is very similar to the pass line bet. The major difference is that the come bet can be placed only after the come out roll. The come bet will win on the next roll after the come out roll if 7 or 11 are rolled. The come bet will lose on the next roll after the come out roll if a craps is rolled. If any other number is rolled then a come point is established. Then the come bet will win if the come point is rolled before 7. If 7 is rolled before the come point the come bet loses. The don't come bet is exactly the reverse of the come bet.
Craps Bets - Free Odds Bets
The free odds bets are additional bets that can be placed in conjunction with the pass line bets or the come bets. The functioning of the free odds bets in conjunction with the pass line bet is explained below. Once the player places the pass line bet and a point is established in the come out roll then the player can place the free odds bet. The advantage of the free odds bet is that it carries no house edge and therefore reduces the house edge of the over all wager. The free odds bet can be similarly placed in conjunction with the don't pass bet, come bet and don't come bet.
Craps Bets - Place, Big 6, Big 8, Hardway Bets
There are some simpler sequence bets in craps. One such series of bets is the place bets. The bets win if a particular point number is rolled before 7. The big 6 and the big 8 bets win if a 6 or 8 are rolled before 7. The hardways bets are interesting sequence bets. The hardways 4 bet wins if 4 is rolled using doubles before it is rolled in any other way or before 7 is rolled. The other hardways bets are hardways 6, hardways 8 and hardways 10. They function in a similar manner.
Craps Bets - Field Bets
The most common one roll bet is the field bet. The layout shows a field box with the numbers 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 and 12 marked in it. If any of these numbers are rolled in the next roll then the field bet wins. If any of the remaining numbers are rolled then the field bet loses. Most of the center bets are also one roll bets. Most common are the any seven bet and the any craps bet. Any seven bet wins if 7 is rolled in the next roll. Any craps bet wins if 2, 3 or 12 are rolled in the next roll.
